| Most backup tapes aren't meant to be used for more than a year. Make a
point of permanently retiring tapes after they've been in service for a year.
One way to do this is to take the last backup tape used each month, write-protect
it, and set it aside on a shelf or in a safe as a permanent "archival" tape.
