Boxster Superchargers and TurbochargersSimply put: These are compressors that force air into your engine's intake under pressure. Superchargers use a belt or chain to drive a compressor, while turbochargers use a turbine in the exhaust stream to spin a compressor turbine in the intake system. These provide incredible improvements in power. But they also represent the greatest danger to your engine of any other modification discussed on this website, and they move you much higher up in autocross classes... somewhere you may not want to go!
Warning: Consider this only if you absolutely understand what the risks are. You could end up spending thousands of dollars on this modification, then thousands more when your engine gets damaged by a poorly-executed design or installation. And don't expect Porsche to repair under warranty any damage caused by a modification of this magnitude or nature! In my opinion, any such modification should be accompanied by extensive internal engine modifications too, such as lower-compression pistons, stronger bearings, more heat-resistant exhaust valves, higher-pressure oil pumps and more. None of the kits mentioned here include any of that.
Superchargers
A kit for supercharging the Boxster arrived on the scene almost as soon as the Boxster did. Supercharger kits use generic compressors combined with adapter parts and specific components designed to work well with the Boxster's engine. "Cecil," a frequent visitor to PPBB, had one of these installed, and has been very happy with it so far. His was a kit made by Turbo Performance Center (TPC) and increases power by about 50%. It is available from Automotion.
Turbochargers
A kit is available from Gemballa and it increases the power to 320 hp. I know very little else about it.
