Boxster Brake Modifications

I consider the standard brakes to be great for most uses. They are very easy to modulate, stop quickly, wear well, don't make weird noises or excessive dust, and don't destroy the brake rotors (disks). That said, they also aren't the best for most competition use. And even on the street I've occasionally noticed some weakness when driving fast down a long, twisty mountain road. I haven't made any changes to my brakes yet, since autocrossing is really no more demanding of brakes than brisk street driving. But the buzz on the 'net suggests that these products work well:

Brake Fluid:
Motul "Racing brake fluid 600" seems to be the best brake fluid for Boxsters used for both street and track use. It's 100% synthetic and is highly resistant to the vapor formation that accompanies high brake temperatures typically encountered at competition speeds and causes poor braking. Another brand getting good reviews is the "ATE Super Blue and Gold" fluid.

Brake Pads:
Porterfield "Street Performance" pads or Pagid "Blue" pads are considered good brake pads for mixed street/track use. For heavy autocross/street use, the Carbotech "Super Street F Compound" pads get high marks, and don't have some of the wear and noise problems that other pads do. For heavy track use, where high temperatures are a major issue, consider something like the Pagid "Oranges" or Carbotech "Panther Plus" pads. Be prepared for higher wear rates, noise and dust formation. But at least they won't melt at the high temperatures encountered on the track.

These mods are legal in SCCA Stock Category autocrossing. If that isn't enough for you Gemballa sells a large brake kit for the Boxster as does Turbo Performance Center and Fabspeed (made by Brembo). These are not legal in SCCA Solo II "Stock Category" autocrossing... or "Street Prepared" for that matter.
