My education was in Graphic Design, and it is the only field
I've ever worked in, and the only career I've ever wanted. The Design field is a good
place to meet fascinating people, and to work with progressive, creative companies.
Design has kept me very busy over the years. It is an exciting challenge to integrate
text, illustrations, photography, and information in a way that is visually striking, yet
conveys information in a manner that is easily understood.
Below you'll find samples of my design work covering many different areas, including
print design,
package design,
corporate identity,
marketing promotions,
presentations,
tradeshow graphics.
This may seem like too much area for one person to cover, but when you've been in
this field of work as long as I have, you tend to be exposed to an amazing variety of
projects. For CD-ROM interface design, please visit my Illustration
section.
Print Design:
- Catalog design comps for Columbia
Tristars 1995 Home Video Catalog. Here are comps for the
cover,
tab,
and page
layout from proposal #1, the cover,
tab,
and page
layout from proposal #2, and the cover,
tab,
and page
layout from proposal #3. I made numerous sketches and comps,
and the inside layout followed them and used the QuarkXPress
template I created, but the final cover was out of my control.
- Catalog cover designs comp
1, comp
3, and comp
4, for Comptons New Media 1995 Catalog. Unfortunately,
I never got a copy of the final piece, so I dont know which
one they chose! I also created the photo
collage.
-
Datasheet for Marimba.
- Roadmap
info sheet for Netscape server software.
Package Design:
- Apple Newton packaging comp1,
comp
2, and comp
3. While some of these comps are very similar to the final
package design used, changes were made after my phase of the
project was completed. Even so, much of what I worked on is in
the final package design.
-
CD-ROM package comp for Knowledge Adventures Brainy Books
Casper CD-ROM. Not used, though I feel it would have had
very strong shelf visibility.
Corporate Identity:
- Most recently, I created new business stationery for my former employer,
Smartshop.com, Inc. Here is the business
card I designed. I also designed matching letterheads, building
signage etc. It was meant to tie in with the design of Smartshop's
corporate web-site.
-
Logo for Lai Venuti & Lai advertising agency. I actually presented
them with about 50 proposals, and this was what they chose.
-
Logo for Pure Grain Digital Productions video conversion company.
Promotional:
- T-Shirt design for Excite, promoting
implementation of PeopleSoft software: Back
and front.
- PS Business Parks sales
promotion mailer.
- PS Business Parks Invitational
Golf Tournament postcard.
This was a followup card to a 5"x25", five-panel mailer
I also designed. It is too big to include here. I created several
years worth of these, including the 1996
invitation.
-
Trophy plaque for the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).
- Auto racing club T-shirt.
- Racquetball towel
design for Los Gatos Athletic Club.
Presentations:
- I created the original eBay
roadshow presentation in PowerPoint... now I kind of wish
Id asked them to hire me as an employee back then!
- Slide show for Baan,
using boxing as a metaphor for business competition. I found
images from old boxing books and posters to insert for a vintage,
gritty look.
- Slideshow template for Pinnacle. This just played off of their logo.
- Heres a sample of a presentation for
Applied Materials. I created all of the graphics used, though several employed
images originally used in magazine ads (like the light-bulb image, which I actually
worked on for the magazine ad as well).
- Heres the title slide from a presentation for Point.com.
- I also made this presentation
template for Go
Networks. This HTML version doesnt show them, but I
had a bunch of animated images within it, like a floating balloon,
a leaping frog; the girl included here jumps up.
- A simple presentation template
for Truebearing.com.
Exhibits:
-
Exhibit booth for National Semiconductor. I designed the surface
graphics.
