BITS AND PIECES:
The Hustle USA dance championships in New York!..., Wow! Speaking for myself
this was the best one so far. The competition, had just about everything you
could imagine, some stiff competition, a bit of controversy, tons of complements,
some complaints, the joy of winning, the agony of losing, new faces and old
friends, a newly renovated hotel and a dance floor that was torn apart by all
the dancer's. Over four hundred dancers from all over the U.S. and as far away
as Germany were on hand and it was jumping! Bobby Morales and Nelson Roman kept
the music rolling, non stop Hustle! The master of ceremony, Ron Best was at his
best keeping the event running on time, the ballroom was packed for both Friday
and Saturday night's general dancing and Sunday afternoon was equally intense
and it was HOT! For those of you who were able to attend, you definitely received
and education for those of you who were unable to attend .... well, your loss
our gain. Now for some results.

and exciting. To all the dancers who attended, thank you for supporting Hustle
USA. Also, a job well done, to the organizers of Hustle USA, Maria Torres, Debra
Hampton and David Sarul, and all their staff. And a special thank you to all
the judges and teachers, Angel Figueroa, Randy Clements, Lisa Vinyard, Lourdes
Juers, Esther Dom, Beata Howe, Jimmy Anton, Maria Torres, Debra Hampton, David
Sarul, Ramiro Gonzales and John Festa, for all their hard work. Plus Kim Vanaman
and her Hustle Performance team and David Melendez and his Salsa Performance
team. Thank you for making this old Hustle Dancers dream come true. I am looking
forward to Hustle USA 1998.
I would like to take this time to recognize some of the Bay Area Hustle Dance
Club members who participated in this event and did and excellent job, I know
a lot of hard work went into some of the routines and it showed. Congratulations
to Steven Ward, of San Jose, CA. and Betty Waldron, of Sacramento, CA. who teamed
up and won first place in the Just Dance Amateur Hustle Division, and to Ava
Apple from San Francisco, CA. and Audrianna Correa, from Fremont, CA., they
received a second place in the Bookends Hustle Division, third place going to,
Ylva Wintzell, from San Bruno, CA. and Yuko Saito from San Francisco, CA. Ylva
and her amateur partner Alik Eliasberg (Mt. View, CA.) received a second place
in the Pro-Am Novice Hustle, Ylva also placed second in the Professional Jack-
N-Jill Hustle and Bobby Concepcion (San Jose, CA.) received a third place in the
Professional Jack-N-Jill. Plus Bobby and Ylva placed fourth in the Just Dance
Professional Hustle, also Ava Apple and her partner Luis Rosa, placed third in
the Just Dance Professional Hustle. Other West Coast entries include Archie
Dawson from San Diego, who won First place in the Professional Jack-N-Jill and
Archie and his partner Melonie Roberts won first place in the Open Cabaret,
others were Alex Seguitan and Casey Lloyd from San Diego who received second
place in the Just Dance Amateur Hustle. And a special recognition should go to
Margarete LeClerc, Marc McGovern, Randi Cohen and Gary Ulander for having the
GUTS to strut their stuff on the dance floor, and I was very please to see all
of them dance well and in my heart they were all winners..!
In the previous news letter I wrote about The Hustle Dance Club of Sacramento
being organized, well it is now officially in business, thanks to the efforts
of Brian Colbert. I would like to welcome all their members into the wonderful
world of Hustle, Ray & Eve Baishiki, Bob Cherrie, Brian Colbert, Ted Colbert,
Dave Sharrock, Jerry Wolf, David & Linda Infante, Maureen Henderson, Yu Weber,

The November 22nd workshop with Luis Rosa and Ava Apple @ The Allegro Ballroom
