I've seen this behavior before. In our case, it was happening with the Novell technical support web site. We could reach the first page of the Novell site fine, but when we wanted to go to the tech support area (served by a different server), we couldn't reach it. Packet traces showed the conversation just ceasing with no apparant cause of failure. Discussions with Novell indicated the MTU was set wrong on that particular Sun server. Unfortunately I was not the person who contacted Novell, so I'm not sure what the incorrect setting was, nor what the corrected setting was. Interestingly though, the problem only occurred on certain workstation IP stacks. In our case, the Lan WorkPlace stack experienced the error, but the Chameleon stack was fine. Open Transport on a Macintosh also worked without difficultly. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but maybe this will help you some in your troubleshooting.
