As long as I plan on remaining in Trieste for a week, perhaps I can use the relative calm to catch up on travel reports.   I have already uploaded photos from my family's home town of Agordo in the Dolomites (a sub-range within the Alps), so I'll get Agordo written up, then catch up on Rome and perhaps Padova.

Agordo is the heart of its deep little alpine valley.  How deep?  Think Yosemite, or Rivendell.  Not the movie Rivendell, the real one, which I always pictured as looking like Yosemite anyway.

clouds and several layers of ridges
Despite the distinctly un-tropical temperature, the place reminds me of the Andean cloud forest, the ever-changing dance of cloud and peak, mist and ridge.  Weather seems much a part of daily life and entertainment; puts Italian TV to shame.
