I had this thought: What if we simply started usenet 2 by gatewaying from usenet 1 into usenet 2 through a delayed gateway mechanism. These gateways (maybe 4 to 6) would connect usenet 1 to usenet 2 by holding articles long enough to process spam cancels (hopefully speeding this by getting direct or near direct feeds from Mr. Roadkill and friends), then forwarding them on to a usenet 2 network that had a membership charter which everyone had to agree to. This charter would include provisions for cutting you off if you did not "behave", would include minimum standards for spam control, and would require you to cut off people who didn't follow the rules. As I see it, this would allow us a nice transition from usenet 1 to usenet 2, without losing too much (maybe 15-60 minutes hold time for usenet 1 articles). Steps to do it: - develop software to hold articles and process cancels (INN could to this with tweaking, I think) - write a charter, and get people to print copies, sign them, and send them in? - establish 4 to 6 gateway sites, and begin crossfeeds among usenet 2 members Anybody interested? I could have a test gateway site up in a week or so... -Chris
