In the fall of 1975 Richard went to work for the San Francisco Municipal Railway Revenue Department, where he worked for 32 years, ending his career as a Sr. Business Analyst for the Revenue Section. He retired in June of 2007.
His hobbies have included improvisational acting, weight training, and an interest in car racing, particularly Sports/GT, F1, and Drag Racing. He is pictured above with his 1993 Mazda RX-7.
Intellectually, his interests tend toward Art, Philosophy, Eastern Religions (esp. Taoism and Buddhism), and in the area of computers, so-called Machine Intelligence and Natural Language Processing. Musically, he enjoys European Classical, late night Jazz, and American Blues/Gospel derived music, especially R&B, Rock and Soul.
He has been interested in computers since the early 1970's, and began programming with an HP calculator in 1978. Later with an Apple II, and an Amiga, he enjoyed programming using the Forth language. He originated and maintains an ancient dBase accounting system for the S.F. Municipal Railway Revenue Section. He has created several web sites, and continues to be excited about the possibilities that computers offer people now, and in the future.
He used to live in a "quaint" (i.e. old and small) cottage in the Berkeley hills, over-looking the San Francisco Bay, with his front door guarding spider, "Ralph". But has since moved to an 'Active Adult' community at Trilogy, in Rio Vista, CA, which is in the Sacramento River Delta.
Now he works part time from home for the Muni Railway, and enjoys dining and travelling with his girlfriend Jeanne.
