Amy Lynn Franklin
Amy Lynn Franklin is a vocal powerhouse, a riveting live performer veteran
and an evocative and compelling songwriter. Her multi-disciplinary approach
to music reflects a fine balance of academic training and pure inspiration --
a potent package delivered by a consummate professional with personality to
burn.
Amy, a native Angeleno, grew up on music. Learning the piano from age 5, She
eventually graduated high school from the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy
in Michigan with a Major in Opera Vocal Performance. Amy continued her studies,
earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her
musical schooling was not limited to classical forms. She was simultaneously
hanging out and absorbing influences from all of the musicians, balancing Handel
with rock. Puccini with funk. At Berklee, while studying voice, songwriting
and music theory, she also learned how put on a hell of a show. Her two one-woman
spectacles, Curves Ahead and Good Things Come in Little Packages, featured her
not only as star, but also as producer, director, and songwriter.
In Boston she performed with an alternative band, Twelve Strung Gypsy, in clubs,
concerts and on Radio. Amy's versatility and sight reading abilities became
lucrative sources of income: she recorded songwriter and composer demos as well
as giving voice to local and national commercials and jingles.
To expand her career, Amy knew she needed to come back home to Los Angeles.
Soon after arrival she was performing in LA's Finest Showcase at the Roxbury
in West Hollywood and was also featured as a special guest artist at L.A. Women
in Music. She alternated television appearances, strutting her Soprano in both
acoustic pop shows, and classical performances with The Angeles Chorale, conducted
by Donald Neuen. In the session world she expanded, singing commercials and
reciting voice-overs for Interactive CD-ROMs overseas. She began collaborating
with noted songwriters and placing songs with music publishing companies. She
joined the Schoolhouse Rock Live tour as a featured soloist with appearances
at venues including LA's Troubadour and San Francisco's Great American Music
Hall. The New Year brings with it the release of Amy's first record, entitled
Songs in the Key of Diva, a collection of original works available for purchase
in January 1999, which can be seen and heard at www.diva-amy-lynn.com in cyberspace.
Ultimately, Amy is memorable not only for her awesome vocal chops but also
her heart and soul. With an almost tangible electrical energy surrounding her
she moves easily from session vocalist to recording artist/composer. For one
so young she's done so much. But as they say, the best is still yet to come.
