Charushree Collur
Charu
is an exponent of the North Indian classical music. She started
learning Classical music at the age of eight and has ever since
continued in her endeavor to acquire perfection in the art of vocal
Classical music. She has learnt from Mr Omkarnath Thakur who initiated
her into Khyal singing. Later on she learnt from Dr Karhade who
is the Principal of a well known music school in Hyderabad, India.
She was an All India Radio Junior Artist for many years and has
won prizes for singing. Currently she is a student of Tripti Mukherjee
- a leading disciple of the great maestro Pt Jasraj.
Charu has performed in and around Pittsburgh. She sings pure Classical,
Semi Classical and has also provided vocals along with a Pianist
and an African drummer as part of a collaborative American Dance
show. She is also involved in teaching and conducting workshops on
the vocal techniques of North Indian Classical music . Charu is interested
in bringing the essence of Indian Classical music to the mainstream
western art forms and in doing collaborative work with various artists
from around the world. She is the Artistic Music director and founder
of NIDHI - Treasure House of Asian American Arts - An Organization
to provide a platform for Artists across genres and to promote awareness
and appreciation for Indian Classical Music among the cross cultural
