Holly Figueroa
" an upcoming, break out, soon to be known artist…" - Seventeen
Magazine
Recently featured on NPR’s “All Things Considered”, native
Ohioan Holly Figueroa started playing guitar in July 1999, when during her first
tour, her guitar player broke his hip while pitching the tent before their first
festival show…in front of ten thousand people. Not knowing a thing about
playing guitar, she learned three chords in three days and finished her tour
by herself. This type of tenacity has always been evident in Holly's career
and personal life. In her first year solo on the acoustic music circuit, she
was wowing national audiences in listening rooms from The Bitter End in New
York City, to Club Passim in Boston, to the Tractor Tavern in Seattle and Genghis
Cohen in Los Angeles. Seattle based Figueroa has toured extensively throughout
the US, greeting fans everywhere with her refreshing style of hybrid folk and
blues, usually with her six year old daughter in tow.
Her new record, "Dream in Red", was produced and recorded by Evan
Brubaker (Laura Love/Darryl Purpose/David LaMotte), and Troy Glessner (Joel
RL Phelps/Sky Cries Mary) at Spectre Studios in Seattle, WA. The record is graced
by musicians Keith Lowe (Fiona Apple/Duffy Bishop), Dan Tyack (Asleep at the
Wheel/Danny Barnes) Jonathan Kingham, Stacey Board, Sean Halley, Dan White,
and Kym Tuvim. What started out as a bare bones, acoustic record recorded in
a living room studio quickly turned into a lush but sparingly produced record
some have called "Jonatha Brooke meets Ani DiFranco". (Susanne Millsaps,
KRCL, Salt Lake City, Utah). Holly is the founder of Indiegrrl (a 1400 member
international organization for women in the independent music industry) and
Indiegrrl Records, which was recently picked up by national distributors, All
Indie. (Valley Media Group). She also recently signed with Hacate Entertainment
Group in New York, a licensing/publishing company, and has had music licensed
through Oxygen Media, MTV, and the WB Network for various shows.

time she was on stage." -Deborah Semer, National Acadamy of Recording

from mellow richness to earthy blues growls, this CD really shows what Holly
is capable of" - Susanne Milsapps, KRCL, Salt Lake City, UT
“with blistering vocals, lush arrangements, and haunting lyrics, Figueroa
once again proves she… is a powerful musical force to be reckoned with…”
- Carla DeSantis, Rockrgrl Magazine, October 2001
