Combine an amazing voice, topical songwriting, a djembe drum and rhythmic
guitar, and you have Joules Graves' brand of "tribal folk."
Joules' 1997 release, PLUNGE!, represents a real milestone in her craft. Multi-instrumentalist Bruce Harvie co-produced the CD with Joules. She offers her kudos: "Not only did he record this baby, but he also plays mandolin, dobro, kabasy, acoustic, electric and slide guitars, bass guitar, drums and percussion . . . wow!"
Joules brings her boundless energy and incredible stage presence to national festivals like Seattle's Bumbershoot and New York's Fingerlakes Grassroots Festival. Laura Love's manager Mary McFaul says: "Joules has a great stage appeal. Her audience will follow her to the ends of the earth."
Joules' CDs have sold-out at several festivals, but Harmony Ridge has been
assured continued stock.
"Outstanding album." -- Bruce Franks, Crossroads magazine

WATERFALL CHILD, the second release by singer-songwriter Joules Graves, showcases her amazing voice and socially-responsible songs. (Her first title, WILDCRAFTED!, can sometimes be picked-up at her shows.) Like Victoria Williams, Joules’ songs convey her deep ecological concern and her testimonies on the power of L-O-V-E.
The album opens with a fast-paced political number: “Grandmother’s Back” is supported solely by Joules’ rhythms on djembe drum. “Drive Me Wild” is a catchy, lighthearted love song driven by her soaring vocal. (This is a really fun track—she calls it her “token ‘Oooh, Baby’ song.”) “Waterfall Child” bears a repeated chorus that shows why this is one of her concert standards.
Her powerful voice and its incredible range frequently make her the center of attention at festivals, such as the Northwest Folklife Festival. Her songs bear strong rhythmic influences. She sometimes accompanies herself on djembe drum; other times her percussive guitar playing accentuates her thoughtful, passionate lyrics.
If you have an interest in environmental issues, or if you just want to hear a great voice, check-out WATERFALL CHILD.
“A one-woman powerhouse of a performer, Joules emanates a passion for the planet and a joy of life that is contagious!”
