Lorraine Jordan
"Take as a base two Irish parents well steeped in music (her father an "All
Ireland Champion " on the flute), add a good measure of the spirit typical
of Wales, the land of her birth, flavour it with Scottish grit and practicality,
the result of her lengthy stay in Scotland and you will have the artistically
explosive mixture that is synonymous with the name Lorraine Jordan." -
Messaggero Venuto (Friuli/Italy)
Lorraine Jordan started her singing
days in the folk clubs of South Wales. While still at school she joined the
band Mooncoin, an Irish/Welsh/Dutch (!) combination
with fiddler Mike Lease (Yr Hwyntws) and piper Theo Schurmanns. Her first
musical trip abroad was representing Wales in Paris and Lyon as a
bouzouki player,
accompanying Mike Lease and Heather Jones, a very fine Welsh singer. This
gave Lorraine enough
money to buy her very own bouzouki, having previously loaned one, and marked
the beginning of many such musical adventures.....
She left Wales for Scotland and joined the Irish/Scots band Malin Head, based
in Edinburgh. The band toured extensively throughout Europe and Scandinavia
playing self-penned and traditional tunes as well as a few of Lorraine's own
songs. It was in the latter stages of her time in the band that she met Niall
O'Callanain (a wonderful bouzouki player) and John Whelan ( a great guitarist).
The two encouraged Lorraine to go over to Ireland and record her debut CD "Inspiration" in
1991 at Starc Studio, Dublin. Thus, armed with a "Prince's Trust Loan" and
some very kind-hearted and extremely talented musicians she embarked upon her
solo career as a singer-songwriter.
"Inspiration" was released to much critical acclaim and Lorraine
toured both solo and with her band throughout Britain and Europe. In 1994 she
decided to licence "Inspiration" to the Scottish Label Lochshore
and went on to release her second CD "Crazy Guessing Games" on the
same label. Again the album received great reviews and Lorraine continued touring
and playing Folk Festivals throughout Europe. Most recently she released "This
Big Feeling" on her own label and the CD continues to receive rave reviews.
