In 1992 Bob Weir (Grateful Dead) and Grammy award winning bassist Rob Wasserman were so blown away by the young and green Susan when she opened for them at the Coach House in Orange County that they took her under their wing around the country to open for them on their entire national tour.

One of the founders of Apple Computers saw Susan playing in a small Bay Area coffeehouse for tips and asked if she had a tape he could buy. When she said she didn't have a tape, he then showed up at her next gig with 10,000 dollars that he gave her and told her to please go record one because he wanted to buy it.

Susan ended up handselling over 2000 copies of the tape she made, Life Between Two Worlds, from the side of the stage as she traveled the U.S. and Canada, handpicked by Lindsey Buckingham to open for him on his 1993 tour.

SUSAN JAMES' brand new CD for 1996 titled, "Shocking Pink Banana Seat" is as unique as the title. Susan wrote all songs, played all guitars, did all vocals. some bass, co-produced the album as well as the artwork.

The owner of New Regency Productions (Natural Born Killers, Boys on the Side, The Client, JFK, Heat, etc.) heard her new cd "Shocking Pink Banana Seat' and was so taken by it, he helped Susan print 1,000 copies for her label, Major Label records.

SUSAN is a stunning singer, songwriter and extraordinary guitarist. Imagine the experimental vocal stylings of Sinead O'Connor mixed with Joni Mitchell and the darkly powerful showmanship of PJ Harvey but with a little humor and playfulness thrown in. Combine that with the guitar wirardry of Mark Ribot, the late Danny Gatton and Sonny Sharrock, and the acoustic prowess of Leo Kotke and Richie Havens. A touch of opera training stretches her multi-octave voice into amazing contortions, and an Ethnomusicology degree from UCLA influences her unorthodox playing style. Of course a childhood growing up in California gives Susan an underlying pop foundation for her songwriting, a sensibility evident in her twisted, shredding live versions of "Eight Miles High", David Bowie's "Heroes" and the Beach Boys' "Sail On Sailor".

Winning awards from Bay Area cable music show "Music Scene" and coveted spots at the 1995 SXSW and NXNW, as well as the SFOI and SF02 festivals, SUSAN JAMES is busy proving the Los Angeles Times right when they call her " a master at exploring the emotional and sonic possibilities of the voice and guitar..creating an entire world of sounds and moods.
