Catherine Wilson/Syrens Of Titan

The newest release by f. h. cazkette (Catherine Wilson) formerly of the Syrens Of Titan, has now arrived. This project is dynamic and pop experimental, with mood experiences from past lives to a future look at the world through her eyes. Catergorizes as, New Age Advante Guarde Pop, which is a mouthful in its self, can be categorized as Electronic. Influences such as, Peter Murphy, Enya, Bjork, Kate Bush, The Cars and The Cure, give you the idea that this music is definitely 80's influenced and combined with spiritual "awakening", it takes on its own life without sounding like anyone else in the universe.

"Music that is original in timing, beat and communication fills with the influences of the Mother and Father God, of Nature and all the blessed animals on this earth. I hope that my music can influence love, understanding, and encouragement." says Cazkette

SYRENS OF TITAN
It took two women, a couple of synthesizers and a pair of engineers named Chris to make the debut CD by the Syrens Of Titan.
And it also took a long time for Evelyn Posgate, 29, and Catherine Wilson, 27, the two Hamilton musicians who make up the group, to put their maiden recording project together.
In terms of actual writing and recording, Wilson estimates the duo spent nine months writing and recording the material on the CD, which was independently released by the duo last week.
But there's also more than a few years of classical training and life experience between the two women.
Wilson is best known for being one half of the group Mastrfeed, a Gothic-pop duo which disbanded in early 1995 after releasing one independent cassette.
She met Posgate, a former Mohawk College music student with an extensive background in classical and jazz, while both were selling hand-crafted jewelry at a summer festival three and a half years ago.
The two began sharing booth space together, touring around outdoor events of all stripes. "A lot of our album is taken from accumulated life experiences," says Wilson. "Things like pagan rituals, tribal drumming circles with people dancing around fires at midnight. Clothing was optional at those events."
It's not surprising, then, that the CD is steeped in lyrical references to ancient and medieval myths. Musically, it's an all-electronic blend of modern synth-based pop and classical music, with touches of tribally-inspired percussion effects (all keyboard-generated). It's reminiscent of modern-day film soundtracks, created by writers with two distinct personalities.
"We're yin and yang," says Wilson. “Evelyn brings in the classical, light feminine side and I bring in this darker, masculine aspect to it. “You can hear it in the songs where you’ll hear something light and airy and then, bang, it shifts into something darker.”

By BRUCE MOWAT

"Being uniquely feminine, we have explored sound textures 'of the ancient and abstract future'. We've been played on non-commercial radio, recently making the top twenty five of the CFMU 93.9 FM chart. We also have been interviewed on "Women's Voices", and have been invited back to perform live on air. We also have performed on Cable 14's, "Entertainment Spotlight" TV show, for their season opener. Our CD is original and thought provoking. A new experience, a new type of musical genre. Our live shows tend to be more accurately hypnotic, and theatrical. We invite any listener to explore this sound and enjoy the worlds that we have created!"
