Edie Carey

"There is a deceptive delicacy about Edie Carey. Just when you think you've figured her for a fragile, soulful songstress, she cuts into a subject -- like death -- with a diamond-edged blade. Beware! You'll be drawn into her spell."
- Marilyn Rea Beyer, WUMB, Boston

"I like the new one A LOT, but i'm being good, and waiting for her release date [to play it]...congrats..."
-Debra D'Alessandro, WXPN 88.5FM Philadelphia

"WOW! very impressed, Certainly stands all by itself as a remarkable Recording and will certainly be getting some serious air play. I'm thoroughly mesmerized by the recording. often I get all these hyped up discs with how great the disc is this is one of the rare ones that lives up to the promo materials! MY only complaint it's too SHORT!!!"
- Chris Darling, Host "Us Folk", WMPG 90.9 FM, Portland, Maine

"Edie was Wonderful. What a stunning voice! I really enjoyed meeting her she was certainly a fun guest and we had 4 phonecalls and alot in-house appreciation for her songs/ style!"
- Chris Darling, Host "Us Folk, WMPG 90.9FM, Portland, Maine

"A few weeks ago I listened to "The Falling Places" for the first time, and then I listened to it again...and again, and again. This record is one full of passion and potential...simply breathtaking."
- Amy Jeffries, WRTC, Hartford

"I can't begin to tell you how much I am impressed with Edie."
-Bob McWilliams KANU Lawrence, KS

"Just played Disco Ball Heart on KANU today and it prompted me to let you know how cool the new CD is...WAYYYYYYY cool!"
- Bob McWilliams KANU Lawrence,KS

"Well, I went to Edie Carey's CD Release party at Passim last night....OH MY GOD! Amazing....if you missed the show last night, do not miss Edie when she plays around Boston next. I am listening to her new CD, "Call Me Home" as I type this, it is great..."
- Rich Overton, WERS, Boston

"Edie is simply an amazing artist. On stage, she is upfront, honest, and entertaining. You cannot help but want more. Edie shares her emotions with her audience, brings tears to their eyes, but knows how to make them laugh at the very right time. Edie's latest CD "Call Me Home" totally blew me away. Her songwriting is in a category all on its own. I cannot stop listening to her music!!!"
- Rich Overton, WERS, Boston

Ellis

"When you see Ellis, you'll say, 'Yes, she will be on the cover of Rolling Stone someday".
- Minneapolis Star Tribune

Combining a voice often compared to that of fiery folk musician Ani DiFranco with soul-searching and compelling songwriting, Ellis is a charismatic talent who is striking a chord with audiences all across the Midwest. Ellis has already released two solo CDs, her live CD Blueprint Live and Soft Day.

Ellis is a charismatic singer-songwriter whose easy laugh and powerful vocals have won her a devoted following throughout the Midwest and beyond. She released her first CD, Soft Day, in 1996, and since then has played hundreds of shows as a solo artist and as a member of Bobby Llama, a rock-funk band for which she was the principal songwriter and lead singer. In 1998 she released her second CD, a live recording called Blueprint Live.

In March 2001 she is releasing Everything That's Real, her most ambitious studio recording to date. Recorded at Minneapolis' Seedy Underbelly, Everything That's Real is sure to further expand Ellis' fan base.

"I think an important element in songwriting is capturing a moment. So much of life flashes before our eyes, and it's nice to feel sometimes that you've grabbed onto a piece of it." - Ellis

Brenda Weiler

Dirty Linen Magazine, one of the country's best known folk/acoustic publications, called Brenda Weiler "someone to watch" in a review of her first album, Trickle Down, in 1998. Now, two years later, the Twin-Cities based singer-songwriter is releasing her eagerly anticipated third album, Fly Me Back.

Coming from a musical family with eight children, Brenda learned early on how music could affect people. Although she played cello for ten years, Brenda didn't pick up the guitar until the summer after she graduated from high school. She immediately started writing songs, and that fall, while taking a year off before going to college, she started performing in her hometown of Fargo, North Dakota. A self-recorded demo tape caught the attention of Fargo-based independent record label Barking Dog Records, and with their help, she recorded Trickle Down. As her musical career snowballed, she decided to put off college indefinitely, and began touring full-time. Traveling across the Midwest and up and down the West Coast, Brenda played to packed houses, building up a dedicated fanbase that now numbers in the thousands. In early 1999, Barking Dog released her second album, Crazy Happy, while Brenda continued to tour year-round.

In late 1999, Brenda decided to strike out on her own, and Fly Me Back represents her first fully independently released album. Drawing from musical influences as diverse as Patty Griffin and Radiohead, Brenda recorded Fly Me Back at Minneapolis' Seedy Underbelly (Semisonic, Jonny Lang). The album features contributions from producer John Hermanson (formerly of the folk duo Storyhill), drummer Eric Fawcett (SpyMob, Matt Wilson), and engineer Alex Oana (Semisonic, SpyMob). Combining her love of acoustic music with inventive drum loops, lush strings, and her intimate yet powerful vocals, Brenda has created an album of pure honesty and grace.

Brenda's grass-roots approach to building a following, which includes relentless touring (she plays an average of 140 shows a year, ranging from college campuses in Chicago to coffeehouses in San Francisco), and an emphasis on intimate and accessible performances, has paid off. To date, she has sold over 6,000 copies of her two previous independently released CDs. She received the City Pages (Twin Cities) Critics Choice Award for Best Female Vocalist for 2000, and was named Best Female Vocalist at the 2000 Minnesota Music Academy Awards. She's played with many regional and national artists including Greg Brown, Dar Williams, Lucy Kaplansky, Iris DeMent, and Willy Porter. Critical acclaim for Brenda has included numerous articles, the theme of which can be summed up in this recent quote from the Minneapolis StarTribune: "Weiler's songs work because they're painstakingly real and honest." To that honesty, Brenda now adds a musical conviction that makes Fly Me Back sure to stand out.
