Jenifer Jackson

Spellbinding. This haunting NYC artist weaves a web of deep sensuality, and of beauty. She is the kind of siren that enchanted legendary sailors, who lost their bearings and dashed their crafts against rocky shores. I'd already heard this record a number of times, so I thought while I listened anew, that I would do a couple of things around the house. By the middle of the first song, I was sitting on the couch with the speakers roaring, my head in my hands, lost in a reverie on the wonder of woman.

Her melodies are vast, dreamy sculptures that take you right out of your body. Her singing is so smooth and inviting, you need only allow yourself to float away to where that voice is leading you. Every song seems to end too soon, and you start to fall, and then you hit another air current, and climb again.

I have a weakness for all grooves resembling the bossa nova, and I love the way she writes in this feel, but it's only a turn of the diamond in her hand. I'm always in search of pop music that's suitable for adults, and she's high on my list. If your life is too busy, and you need someone to calm you down, here's a record that will touch you in a place where it all makes sense again.

    Slowly Bright

There's a particularly soft, almost nave sense of beauty to Jenifer Jackson's songs that belies the sophistication of their craftsmanship and presentation. Characterized by the gentle ring of Jackson's hollowbody Gibson guitar and by the tasteful semi-jazz of her backing band, Slowly Bright consists of finely detailed compositions that look to the classiest of pop influences for inspiration --Burt Bacharach, Joni Mitchell, Chet Baker, etc. Jackson writes high, sweet melodies that often test the limits of her voice, but her pure, straight-ahead singing style effectively plays up the simple elegance of her arrangements and the intimately revealing nature of her lyrics.

    Jennifer Taylor
    .

Jennifer Taylor grew up in Naugatuck, CT. Her love for music and her potential in the performing arts was shown early on. By the third grade she was entertaining audiences with her solo performances on the violin. In middle school she put the violin to rest and began playing piano. She took private lessons for three years when finally finding her true calling on the guitar. At age 16 she started her first basement band where she would practice every day after school religiously. While unsuccessful in finding a singer for the band, Jennifer decided to take the stand. Never singing before in her life, she discovered she had a voice. Jennifer soon began to write her own songs. Coming straight from the heart, her songs seemed to catch people's ear immediately.

Jennifer had been in several duos and bands until finally finding her place as a solo artist. Her professional career started in 1998 (while out watching her father's band perform) she was asked to play some cover tunes during the break. After having played only two songs, Jennifer was offered a weekly gig. Since then she has been playing non-stop wherever and for whom ever she can. It was not long before she had created a solo style of her own. Working toward her dream to get her own music out, she plays covers at night while working on her original material by day. Although her performances are solo, Jennifer's true goal has been to have a full band sound. After a year and a half of recording, her first full band CD, simply titled Jennifer Taylor, was released on Sept. 21, 2000.

Jennifer Taylor teamed up with Matthew Russo (Producer and Engineer) and Peter Moshay (Vocal coach and Engineer) to make an eight song modern rock CD. With every song as good as the next, Jennifer's powerful lyrics and intense vocals keep you listening to the end. Although Jennifer is most often compared to a few of her influences, such as Melissa Etheridge and Alanis Morrsiette, she also brings a new modern rock style never heard before. It is an emotional and unforgettable CD dealing with affairs of the heart.

Jennifer hopes to reach a broader audience with her new CD. Her determination to prevail is one attribute hard to ignore as she astounds her audience with her passionate performances. Ready to seize the spotlight, it is inevitable Jennifer's talent and persistence will take her to the next level, whatever that may be

She is the winner of OffBEAT Magazine's 2000 Best of the Beat, Best Emerging Blues Artist Award.

She hosts a Songwriter's night bi-monthly, and was the host and director of a cable TV music program, The Southern Music Showcase, broadcast throughout SW Louisiana.

    Reviews:

Lake Charles, Louisiana has a long history in music and adding to that is Melissa Sigler with her debut album Easy Way Out. Easy Way Out has twelve great original songs all penned by Melissa about living in the real world, the good times and the bad times. The first track You Made Your Mark features Melissa's deep rich vocals and piano along with a tasty lead guitar break by Tina Wing. Next is, In A Perfect World, a beautiful 'radio friendly' ballad. Highlights not only come from great songs like Storm Warnings, Bayou Boy, or the swinging blues of The Bra Slingin' Boogie, but also from the musicianship and tight playing of these women as can be heard on the title track Easy Way Out. This is a top blues album and one to look out for.
    -Eric Black, Blue Country 101FM

Even though Melissa Sigler's music may ensconce you to the point you'd swear you're in some shag-carpeted lounge sipping a glass of cognac, it's not one you've been in before. Instead of listening to the same banal cover hits, the Lake Charles keyboard-playing diva is the type of performer who can hold her audience to the point they forgot why they came in. Her deep, projective vocals are comfortably warm while she adeptly frames the chords or pounds out a boogie like "The Bra Slingin' Boogie" that's not at all a bust. While Louisiana-themed songs "Bayou Boy" and "Calcasieu River" are bonused with Mark Hebert's fiddling, Sigler's ballads are candidates for fuller, more orchestrated arrangements, more horns and guitars to complement her expressive voice and keyboards. No question Sigler's got the stuff.

    Sally Cooper

Sally Cooper; Soulful songstress from Australia, offers here a sensational collection of uniquely appealing, cleverly crafted and emotive songs. The style of which can be described as Adult Contemporary Pop/R&B with a Funky Soul groove filtered through it, enhanced with interesting World Music touches.

Each tells its own unique tumultuous tale of loves' endeavors. Sally has a superb, beautiful voice and she sings in a way that extracts an abundance of emotion with every phrase and nuance within each song. Sally's' Background

Sally Cooper began establishing herself as a professional musician in Sydney, Australia, where she is well known and respected as a Singer/Songwriter, AND ALSO as a Jazz and Blues Singer. She surrounded herself right from the beginning of her career with some of Australia's' finest musicians, some of whom have also worked with these Big Name artists; Barbara Striesand, James Taylor, Frank Zappa, Madonna, Vince Jones, Alan Holdsworth, James Morrison, Dale Barlow, and The Baby Animals. An enterprising self-starter; she has gone on to front her own self named Duo, Trio and Band; called "The Sally Cooper Duo, Trio and Band". She has had a demanding schedule of performances now with these lineups not only throughout Australia, but also in South East Asia, and The Middle East

    Reviews:

    Ben Ohmhart of "Music Dish" says of Sally's 4 song EP sampler;
Never heard of Sally, yet this CD has all the earmarks of an established act who's right in the middle of her career, years-wise. Rock, jazz, soul, it's all here. Sally really shines her words on "Never Too Late" and "Turn Around," at times sounding like Barbara Streisand or someone who projects a fine stage presence. Sally's chosen the perfect teaser to exfoliate her rich talents.

Real Time Records Review; Sally Cooper: 4 song CD
With a sound reaching back to draw from several decades of styles, Sally's combination is like a pop history. With a keyboard sound and accompanying percussion reminiscent of early Santana, to the reign of the disco diva, to small windows of several other periods of styles in between, Sally postures herself on a precarious perch. Is it old, is it new? Well actually it's both! It's an infused revisit to several past styles. Is it safe? Well, the music is well played, the songs are well written Sally has a great vocal range, great technique and separately all the musicians are seasoned players. So the conclusion is, it's a good sound and as I've always felt, do what you enjoy otherwise it may not be worth doing.
