Grading

Grading is conservative and based on Goldmine standards.

SS .... Still Sealed

NM .... Near Mint... This is the highest grade. A record that is almost perfect. There may be one or two very tiny inconsequential flaws, but these will be hardly noticeable. Covers will be almost perfect, also. It will essentially appear as though no record was ever placed between the front and back cover.

VG++ ...Very Good Plus Plus... This is just one step below NM. I may use this grade if there are one or two tiny marks of some sort that I feel just slightly degrades the record and/or cover from being Near Mint.

VG+ ....Very Good Plus... Sometimes referred to as "Excellent". A record that has been handled and played very infrequently or very carefully. That is, an item obviously not perfect, but not far from it. On a disc, this could mean there are light paper scuffs from sliding in and out of a dust jacket; the vinyl may have lost some, but not all of its original lustre. Very light surface scratches that did not affect play in any way would be acceptable. On covers and sleeves, some wear from storage is acceptable, especially light wear that did not affect the beauty of the artwork.

STVG ... Strong VG ... An in between grade. Not quite good enough for VG+, but better than VG. I use this grade very infrequently.

VG .... Very Good ... Used but not abused. A VG record will display visible signs of handling and playing, such as loss of vinyl lustre, surface scratches, groove wear and spindle trails. It should not prevent the listener from enjoying the audio aspect of the disc, but there will no doubt be noise when a VG record is played. There may be sol, wol, tol, etc.which I try to list under defects but sometimes miss them. In other words, a VG record should appear and sound to have been well-played although well-loved by a responsible owner. Usually a cover, like a disc, is VG when a variety of problems are evident. Ring wear, seam splits, bent corners, loss of gloss on the photo, stains, etc.
An aggravated combination of two or three of these problems - never all of them - would cause a sleeve to be graded VG.

G ..... Good .... The only time I would offer a "G" record is if it is rare and may be used as a filler by some collectors and then the price would reflect the condition, which will be pretty nasty.

As a matter of personal taste, I also list any defects that I think will affect the enjoyment of the record and/or the cover.
